Safeguarding
At Metheringham Primary School we all recognise and uphold our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. We are alert to signs of abuse and neglect, and we will follow our procedures and policies to ensure that children receive effective support and protection.
We keep children safe by:
- Having an up to date safeguarding/child protection policy.
- Checking the suitability of all our staff that work with children through stringent checking procedures.
- Having an open door policy where concerns can be shared in confidence.
- Ensuring all our staff have up to date child protection and safeguarding training.
- Sharing information with appropriate agencies if we have concerns.
- Having an ethos in which everyone is accountable for pupil safety.
- Having three identified members of staff who have overall responsibility for safeguarding and a safeguarding governor who makes regular safeguarding visits.
- Having strong links with an e-safety advisor who comes in to school and work with our children.

Operation Encompass
We are an Operation Encompass School, part of a national scheme which runs jointly between all schools and the police.

Operation Encompass is a system of reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced, any domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school's staff – the Designated Safeguarding Lead, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have recently experienced a domestic abuse incident.
When's the right time to talk PANTS?
Talk PANTS helps children understand that their body belongs to them, and they should tell someone they trust if anything makes them feel upset or worried.
